Our Story

For generations, the Gumbert family has shared a deep love for the Texas Hill Country — its rolling cedar-covered hills, crystal-clear waters, and timeless sense of peace. Dorothy and Eddie Gumbert first discovered Wimberley while living in Houston, and quickly fell in love with the cool waters of Cypress Creek, the warm limestone banks of the Blanco River, and the easy rhythm of Hill Country life.
In 1970, the Gumberts made Wimberley their home, purchasing the land that would become Cypress Acres Ranch. Together, they expanded a small rock house into a family home — hand-building it with stones gathered from their pastures and cedar cut from their land. Their craftsmanship and love for the land became the foundation of everything they built thereafter.
Over the years, Dorothy and Eddie welcomed guests to their property, including families, friends, and travelers seeking a peaceful escape. What started as a simple idea became a beloved Hill Country tradition, offering visitors a laid-back, creekside retreat for over sixty years.
Dorothy passed in September 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and a deep connection to the Hill Country she cherished. Her spirit continues to live on the ranch she and Eddie built together — a place that remains the heart of the Gumbert family.
Today, the Cypress Acres Ranch cabin rentals are lovingly carried on by her daughters, Wendy, Lynn, and Alice, who continue to honor the Gumbert vision by sharing the beauty and tranquility of the ranch with visitors from near and far. The ranch remains a gathering place for Eddie and Dorothy’s three daughters, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Family reunions are hosted here each year, filling the cabins with laughter, stories, and the same spirit of hospitality that Dorothy and Eddie began generations ago.
